History of the Scholarship

The Shireman Family Scholarship was established in 2007 in celebration of Shireman Construction’s 50th Anniversary.

Patriarch, Jim Shireman started James L. Shireman in 1957. Jim and his wife, Mary, had five children; Mike, Becky, Mark, David, and Joe. Each of their children have worked for the company at one time or another. “My Dad was very interested in vocations and realized the importance of having and maintaining skilled people,” said Mark.

Jim was a WWII Marine Veteran. Both he and Mary were very active in their home community of Corydon, IN. Following in their parents’ footsteps the Shireman children are also active servant leaders in Harrison County. Chamber of Commerce Board President Pam Bennett Martin said, ” The family wants to and has made a difference in our community by their work, community involvement and financial commitment…. This scholarship fund is just one more way this family is making a difference in Harrison County.
