Floyd County Detention Center
Project Summary
The Floyd County Detention Center project consists of renovating the existing building and adding 114 beds without enlarging the footprint of the building. Each cell block is receiving new fixtures, paint, doors, locks, and added beds. The existing kitchen and booking areas were totally gutted and rebuilt. The mechanical and electrical infrastructure was also totally rebuilt. Fire alarms and security systems are being rebuilt as well.
The renovation of any structure is difficult. This project is unique because inmates are remaining in the facility and being moved to different areas as the work progresses. This keeps the county from having to send inmates to other counties during the renovation process. This type of project requires pinpoint diligent management, planning, and communications between the construction manager, the detention center staff, county commissioners, and the rest of the team.
