Areva Pharmaceuticals
Project Summary
Entrepreneurs Victor and Irene Swaminathan of Areva Pharmaceuticals chose Shireman to create their administrative offices and global distribution center. Shireman helped select and develop the 24-acre site near Interstate 64 in Harrison County, working closely with Harrison County Economic Development Corporation to create an innovative public-private partnership between Areva and the county.
The 65,000 sq. ft. distribution center and the 24-acre site was a design-build project by Shireman and a team of leading industrial architects in greater Louisville. The building was constructed with innovative pre-cast concrete walls, with a 28’ clear height. Super insulation was sandwiched between concrete slabs allowing Areva a smooth interior wall surface necessary for strict Food and Drug Administration cleanliness standards while providing energy efficiency in a building that must remain climate-controlled. Because the panels were made in a factory offsite, Shireman was able to fast track other areas of the project, achieving Areva’s FDA-mandated move-in date a month early.
Creating Innovative Public-Private Partnership.
