This $15M project included the total renovation of the old Harrison County Hospital campus. The outdated, 1950s hospital was converted into bright spacious county government offices. Shireman was tasked with blending old with new construction components. Despite challenges of dealing with asbestos and trying to update an older building, we were able to bring the project in $700,000 under budget by obtaining set quotes from subcontractors.
Because of asbestos within the building, we had to work closely with the architect and asbestos consultants. In order to achieve this we broke the project into phases and sequenced so there were no delays in construction.
Thanks to Shireman’s efforts as CM closely working with our Architects our project bid came in under the original budget and our County was able to add several alternates to our plans.
Did we make the right decision? Our project came in $700,000 under budget. There were no problems with subcontractors. We were kept informed so there were no ‘surprises’. Finally, the taxpayers got a structure that was attractive, functional, and secure.
Shireman served as the County’s ‘eyes and ears’ at the construction site. As questions and challenges arose, Shireman answered them. Shireman’s experience and expertise in construction management has been made exceptionally clear.
